INTRODUCTION TO MENTORING WORKSHOP

The Introduction to Mentoring Workshop, is a meaningful beginning to the experienced teacher's expanding role as mentor and professional educator. The objectives for the three-day workshop are to

provide an opportunity for teachers to reflect on their own experiences as a new teacher and now as an experienced teacher;

acquaint teachers with what is known about the mentoring role and what it means to be a mentor;

help teachers understand better the needs of the novice teacher;

review classroom management and planning decisions in order to help new teachers understand how these crucial decisions operate in the classroom;

give teachers practice with methods for observing, conferring, and providing feedback; and

assist teachers in developing a plan for working with novice teachers.

The Mentor Handbook, An Introduction to Mentoring, 5th Edition, is the required handbook for the training. The purchase of a handbook is required for each participant and is in addition to the workshop fee.
