MENTOR WORKSHOPS INFORMATION

MENTOR provides two levels of training. The Introduction to Mentoring Workshop helps experienced teachers develop an understanding of the elements and applications of mentoring. The advanced Training of Trainers Workshop prepares experienced mentors to become district workshop leaders

Introduction to Mentoring Workshop
Based on the The Mentor Handbook: An Introduction to Mentoring (2004) by Carolyn M. Evertson and Margaret W. Smithey of Peabody College, Vanderbilt University, this intensive three-day workshop guides aspiring mentors through five structured-for-success Modules. All participants receive a copy of The Mentor Handbook: An Introduction to Mentoring, 5TH Edition by Carolyn Evertson, Ph.D. and Margaret Smithey, Ph.D. of Peabody College, Vanderbilt University.

Building knowledge upon knowledge, expert National Trainers shape a dynamic learning process that examines the nature of mentoring and role of the mentor; reflects on mentor candidates’ own career beginning to increase sensitivity to the uncertainties, questions, and concerns of new teachers; focuses on helping new teachers analyze, organize, and implement successful classroom management and instructional planning systems; refines observation and conferencing skills essential to effectively leading new teachers in constructing their own knowledge about teaching; and encourages mentor/novice collaboration in establishing first year mentoring plans.
